Despite the FDA’s record-breaking rate of approvals for novel drugs in the last two years, overall life expectancy in the U.S. is falling behind other industrialized nations. In the U.S., 40% of deaths are premature and preventable, largely driven by behavioral, economic and environmental factors.
The World Health Organization named the top ten threats to global health in 2019. Among them are air pollution and climate change; preventable diseases caused by lifestyles such as tobacco use, physical inactivity and unhealthy diets; weak primary care and lack of access to preventive medicine.
